You’re planning your next short trip and realize it’s time for a new suitcase. Especially Rimowa has a bold red back—classic, isn’t it?
I generally like Rimowa item page (yes, I know it’s “product page,” but I can’t bring myself to call luxury fashion “product”. At 2Jour Concierge, we refer to “products” as “objects” in our filter section). For luggage e-shops—a case study I will finish one day:)😅—it has some customer-friendly features, like:
• AR, where you can place the suitcase in your room to get a better sense of its size
• key elements section highlighting the suitcase’s technical specs
• the model’s height, pictured with the suitcase, feels like a thoughtful touch
But here’s the problem. Rimowa provides airline compatibility on the item page, which sounds helpful at first.
• For example, Wizz Air allowance is listed as 40 x 30 x 20 cm. Rimowa smallest suitcase is 55 x 39 x 20 cm, meaning—it won’t fit.
• Then there’s Emirates, where the limit is supposedly 55 x 38 x 20 cm. RIMOWA’s cabin suitcase in that bold red is 55 x 39 x 23 cm. Sure, you could maybe push it with 1 cm, but 3? Probably not.
📌However, Rimowa’s information is wrong. WizzAir trolley bag allowance is actually 55 x 40 x 23 cm (paid, but still). Emirates allowance is 55 x 38 x 22 cm, not what they’ve listed. Several more airlines have incorrect measurements too.
📌So, what’s the lesson?
If you:
1) do not control the information (you are not the one who actually creates it) and
2) can’t ensure the information you display is accurate (or, in other words, you don’t have a special person who will check airline websites, the real source for that information on regular basis, weekly let’s say - and not general platforms about the information, where I actually found this misleading measurements)
- do not to display this information at all.
Baggage allowances are airline-specific and constantly change. If you can’t keep that data up-to-date, it frustrates customers more than it helps. And really, what’s the point of incorrect data? Even with the statement at the end of the list “Please contact your airline on current hand luggage restrictions”. For some, it may even be a reason not to buy.
P.S. How come Emirates (if you know you know:)) has a smaller luggage allowance than WizzAir? No way to accommodate the red Rimowa?
P.P.S. I recently heard a story from someone I know whose Rimowa suitcase was damaged by an airline. While statements like Rimowa’s “Lifetime Guarantee” usually come with a long list of conditions, the brand exchanged the damaged suitcase for a brand new one and even let them choose any other color, including the latest updates. I love stories like that😌. Clients do too. Win-win (#loyalty).
